BEDWETTING

Bedwetting, also called as – “Nocturnal Enuresis”

Involuntary urination at night/sleep during- 
•    Children age >5 years.
•    Bedwetting twice a week.
•    Continent during day.

Causes-
•    Familial predisposition/tendency.
•    Emotional – feeling of insecurity.
•    Sleep disorder.
•    Slow bladder control.
•    Low bladder capacity.

Parents should look for –
•    Hydration means water intake in day time.
•    Day time voiding/urination- time, frequency, quantity.
•    Sleep history- Time, duration, Position, restlessness in sleep, snoring, nightmares, sleepwalking.
•    Behaviour, personal/emotional status.

Advise-
•    Remove GUILT feeling in child.
•    Support and reassure the child.
•    Do not blame.
•    Do not punish.
•    Pass urine before bed time.
•    Reduce fluid intake after 6 pm.
•    Set time to get up at night to use toilet.
•    Increase holding time.
•    Dry night reward your child.
